Another, unnamed Republican legislator:"When your whip votes against you, it’s kind of tough to whip for it.”
This is kind of like when William Wallace met with Robert the Bruce in good faith, but Bruce and the other Scottish nobles beat him unconscious and handed him to the English crown, where they executed him for treason.
Except there are places the analogy doesn't work at all.
