Jonathan Martin has a must-read on the battle between Steve Schmidt and William Kristol for the soul of McCain's 2008 campaign, and what might be the soul of the next few years.

This isn't a past battle, it's today's and tomorrow's, because when you come down to it, the feud is about Sarah Palin, and she's going to be sticking around.

But you just wish McCain would go on Conan and give us his take on Steve Schmidt and Randy Scheunemann.
