California Republican gubernatorial candidate, Steve Poizner, uses Democrat Gavin Newsom's decision to drop out to pivot into another call for opponent Meg Whitman to engage her rivals in debate.
Communications Director, Jarrod Agen:
"We propose a debate between Jerry Brown, Steve Poizner, and any of the Republican candidates running for governor to address the serious issues facing California. There have already been four debates on the Republican side between Steve Poizner and Tom Campbell. We cannot let the fact that there is currently only one Democratic candidate become an excuse to avoid a necessary discussion of the crisis facing California.
President Obama participated in over 20 debates on his road to the White House and the stakes are equally high in the race for California's next Governor. Let’s debate and debate often because this state faces an economic crisis never seen before."
