Earlier today, Mary Matalin vouched for two primary targets of Going Rogue's wrath -- 2008 John McCain Campaign advisers, Nicole Wallace and Steve Schmidt.
Now the big boss himself has had enough stepping on toes, and is stepping in.
John McCain tells Reuters.
"There's been a lot of dust flying around in the last few days and I just wanted to mention that I have the highest regard for Steve Schmidt and Nicolle Wallace and the rest of the team ... and I appreciated all the hard work and everything they did to help the campaign.
I think it's just time to move on."
McCain's neither indulged controversy nor been heavy-handed in denying the two sides their say, but maybe he's been a bit naive.
Over the weekend, ABC quoted McCain telling an aide to ignore the coming maelstrom of controversy from Rogue.
"You are all my dear friends. This will pass. It’ll pass faster if everyone will just stay out of it."
Well. We're just a few days into the tour, and he's already had to publicly step in.
