Huck on the Daily Show

Mike Huckabee showed up on the Daily Show tonight, where he and Jon Stewart first talked about clemency; then lighter things.

Their exchange on Huck's commutation of Maurice Clemmons was similar to recent discussion on all the blogs, op-ed pages, etc., Once the vid's available I'll put it up.

But Huck explained the decision, Stewart sympathized, and they both mourned the obsessive politicization of the consequences, with Stewart wryly commenting:

"It's as though the media loses perspective on the importance of things."

Near the end, they also talked a little Karl Rove.

STEWART: You ever see Karl Rove in the hallway?

HUCK: He's usually out of Washington. I've seen him from time-to-time in the hallway, but he's normally out of Washington.

STEWART: I always hear him saying stuff like "They've really gotta be careful about the deficit and spending, and you're like 'Dude, were you alive for the past 8 years'?"

I always wonder if he has any sense of 'I can't believe I'm saying this'. He criticizes them for, like, politicizing photo-ops, and you're like 'I learned it from watching you'."

Do you think there's that self-awareness?

HUCK: [laughing] Look, both sides play the political game...

STEWART: [interrupting] No, no, no. With Karl Rove.

HUCK: Karl Rove?

[laughing]

STEWART: With Karl Rove, do you think he's aware that his criticisms ring -- I don't even wanna say hollow, but he's literally almost sitting in front of a mirror saying things he should have said to himself like...

HUCK: [interrupting] ... you'll have to get him on the show and ask him that, Jon.

Don't you think Karl Rove looks like this bird?

It takes a person of integrity to right an injustice when there is absolutely no political gain in the action. Real men (and women) put people before politics.

I couldn't have said it any better Karla.

Karla and Faithfulcitizen,
I admire your desire to have a nuanced view of justice. However, do you really think that pardoning 1,056 criminals is a good idea? Correct me if I am wrong, but I feel like that if any other governor pardon that number of criminals, conservatives everywhere would be against him. But because it is the likeable Huck, all of a sudden some conservatives are placed in the awkard position of defending policies that they don't really agree with.

My word, he pardoned or granted clemency to 12 people who were convicted of murder. Do you really agree with this?
