Palin: pleasin' the base

Chuck Todd on the new WSJ/NBC poll.

... among Republicans only, the most popular is Palin -- with a whopping 73%-13% rating. But Palin's overall score is a net negative, 35%-45%, which means she fares poorly among Democrats and independents.

A few, more things worth noting.

1) Palin's "very positive" rating is at 15%, which is the lowest of her national political career. For comparison, in the first WSJ/NBC poll taken after she was picked (Sept 6-8), her very positive rating was 30%.

2) Palin's "very negative" rating is at 30%, which is high, but has come down 4% from before the election.

3) Taken together, it seems the reduction in her very positive and very negative ratings are simply a matter of the election being over, and levels of hate and love returning to more humane proportion.

4) It's a bit deceptive to say, out of context, Palin's the most popular figure among Republicans. If I'm reading the same poll Todd is, then that comparison group is George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, and Condi Rice. That's quite salient, me thinks.
