Malek: Don't read 2012 into Palin's decision

GOP heavyweight fundraiser, Fred Malek, tells Adam Nagourney that Sarah Palin's resignation doesn't portend some "grand strategic plan".

I don’t think there’s nearly as much to this as people are trying to make of it. I think you have to take her at her word. I don’t think it’s a grand strategic plan to clear the decks and form a grand strategy for 2012 — I really don’t.

That's the same idea Stanley Fish is getting at in his new piece, "In defense of Palin and Sanford".

So what’s the bottom line story? Simple. Sanford is in love. Palin is in pain. Sometimes what it seems to be is what it is.
