Propping up Eric Cantor to what end?

Bearing Drift makes a salient point: The MSM has been largely laudatory toward the Minority Whip. Are they just setting Cantor up for the sneak attack?

Maybe.

On the other hand, conservatives need to be careful about turning Dr. Seuss* into Tolstoy. After all, we complain incessantly about media bias. If Cantor catches a break here or there, is that such a bad thing?

*That's not to imply the MSM is Dr. Seuss. It's much more Arthur Koestler -- heavy hitting, sure, but ultimately, not a traitor to country or a reader's capacity to process eternal words.
