Burnish my resume: DeMint wants a seat on the Senate Finance Committee

Politico:

Republicans, struggling with reduced numbers in the Senate, are arguing over several committees, including a seat on the Senate Finance panel. Wyoming Sen. Michael B. Enzi is angling for that spot, but Sen. Jim DeMint of South Carolina is also interested.

It would add to a number of committees already on DeMint's resume:

a) the Committee of Commerce, Science, and Transportation

b) the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources

c) and that all-important Presidential-sounding Committee on Foreign Relations.

The Finance Committee (pdf) brought you the GI Bill and the Social Security Act, and also has jurisdiction over both Medicare and Medicaid.

If you want to know why DeMint might want the appointment, consider the preceding, and if you're still reprising Thomas after Christ's resurrection, just run a google search with something like -- Senate Finance Committee Powerful --. You'll find the AP likes attaching the adjective to the committee's name.
