Daniels in December: We're screwed; Daniels in January: You wish you were us!

The AP reports on what Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels plans on doing with the $3 billion his state could get if the $825 billion stimulus passes:

Gov. Mitch Daniels says at least half of Indiana's share should go to the state's Medicaid program, which provides health care for disabled, needy, elderly and young Hoosiers.

Daniels also favors earmarking $800 million for education, most of which would go directly to school districts for operating expenses and projects, and $740 million for road and bridge projects.

Pay careful attention to the next paragraph(ea):

Daniels says Indiana will be better able to use the money to try to stimulate the economy because it's in a better financial position than many states.

Now rewind to last December, where in an Indianapolis Star editorial, Gov. Daniels chicken-littled Washington, DC (ea).

Daniels and Bayh are urging Congress and President-elect Barack Obama to distribute the stimulus money based on a state's economic health.....

"You have states with full employment who get $2 and $3 for every $1 they send in. If this is really about putting people to work, let's build the projects where the economic need is the greatest.
