Line item veto time: Crist readies break with party's budget

Florida's Legislature has approved a $2.8 billion budget-elimination package, which will now go to Gov. Charlie Crist's desk.

It's unclear how Crist will be wielding his line item veto, but education, and particularly teacher merit programs, could be first in line to get some $ restored:

"I think it’s important that we recognize the work of our public school teachers and particularly those who are doing exceptionally well. To revisit that issue is important.”
